It took a while, but we finally have a broadband line installed in both Beachscape and Tides, so there is now free wi-fi when you have a holiday at either property. Lovely as it is to feel you are escaping to a seaside retreat when you are on holiday, I’ve been all too aware that for many of us, a holiday can still mean needing to stay in touch with the outside world. The park provided wi-fi, which could be purchased on site, was a bit hit and miss and I wanted to provide a better service than this.
Plusnet had been recommended by several other holiday home owners as being a good provider, especially in rural areas. I got in touch with them back in February, but it meant having a line installed by BT openreach before we could actually get the broadband up and running.
The first line was installed relatively easily to Beachscape, but thereafter followed a catalogue of events that could only be described as the makings of a farce! I was on site at the time, returned home in all innocence only to find on my next visit that some of my neighbours had been cut off as a result, for several days. It became transparent that the BT network in the area was not up to the demands being placed on it of new lines both for phones and broadband. When someone like me comes along and asks for a new line, it appears they cut someone else off in order to fulfill the order!
There were faults on the line, the router didn’t immediately work and it had to wait for a further visit with my laptop in tow, to finally connect to the network. One down, one to go.
The line was then duly installed for Tides and a week later I arrived for a visit to connect the router as before. Imagine my surprise to find the line had been cut off just a matter of days after being connected! Back home, I booked an engineer visit, but I waited a week or so, aware that the BT vans were in evidence all around the village, hopefully completing the much needed upgrade to the local network. I then asked my housekeeper to test the line and this time it appeared to be working. I duly cancelled the engineers visit as it was no longer needed.
Last week, I took my laptop and again ran through the connection process of the router. Bingo, finally two properties, both with working internet! There are still faults on both lines, but I have been assured this will be sorted and will not affect the provision of the internet.
In all of this I cannot fault the Plusnet customer service system. They are a Yorkshire company and proud of their roots. Every time I rang I spoke to some very helpful customer assistants; the downside was it was often a 15 minute wait, all the while having pop music from Yorkshire musicians, such as Chris Rea hits playing down my ear piece!
So on your next visit to either property, you will find a router in the corner of the lounge, with the wi-fi code written on the front of it. We are providing the wi-fi completely free of charge to allow you to keep up to date with your emails, browse the internet, check our webiste for more local information such as tide times or places to go or perhaps just read your daily paper online.
If you’re thinking of buying a Plusnet product or switching from your current provider, then contact me first, and I will happily recommend you.

Thank you Gill for your comments. No problem about the ice cube tray! I hope your dog now knows what to expect when faced with the sea again. 🙂
