Always looking to try new places on each Norfolk visit, the Recruiting Sergeant was our pub restaurant of choice for a Sunday evening meal.

Recruiting Sergeant HorsteadA 12 mile drive through the countryside, via North Walsham, it took a leisurely 25 minutes or so. From the coast, go round the sharp bend at Coltishall, known for the quirkiness of having a garage on an island in the middle of the road, it’s just a few yards further along the road on the right. Opposite is the Farm to Fork & Fish farm shop, well worthy of a visit during opening hours, but it was shut and we were here to dine not shop! [Read more…]

Half Term and all things Halloween

There’s lots going on during half term in Norfolk with plenty of Halloween activities to enjoy.  Young or old, I’m sure you’ll find something to suit.

Pumpkins

Blickling Hall our local National Trust property has plenty to choose from. How about History comes to life  – meet the builders of Blickling to 1930s maids. Hear the gossip and find out what  life was like in their time, on Wednesday 29th October. Cooking in the kitchen is on Thursday, 30 October or Sunday, 02 November where you will find ‘Kath’ and ‘Cook’ recreating the recipes of the 1930’s in the kitchen. 1940s Weekend in Sheringham – all things vintage!

One weekend a year, in September, the seaside town of Sheringham, in conjunction with the nearby town of Holt, goes back several decades to the 1940s.

Centred around the North Norfolk Railway, The Poppy Line, the station provides a great backdrop for the comings and goings of people all dressed in vintage costumes and with steam trains and heritage buses running all weekend.

A new website

Well that is certainly something to shout about! After months and months of work, my new website, which also incorporates this blog, finally went live in September 2014. Now my blog posts can be seen and read by you instead of talking to myself as I have been so far!

I actually started this new site back in 2011, but didn’t get very far. I just couldn’t get my head around what seemed to be the complexities of wordpress. Yet everyone was out there creating blogs and websites by the thousands! Why couldn’t I?
